SEATTLE JOINS GREAT WEST IN WOMEN'S TENNIS
July 21, 2010
NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Seattle University has joined the Great West Conference in the sport of women's tennis, effective with the upcoming 2010-11 season, commissioner Ed Grom announced today. Women's tennis becomes the seventh sport that Seattle will participate in the Great West, joining men's and women's cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. "We have experienced a great relationship with Seattle University in the last year or so and we look to learn more about each other in the next several months," Grom said. "Seattle is not unlike several of our members going through the transition from Division II to the NCAA Division I level, and being part of a conference will assist them in getting acclimated to higher level competition. At the same time, the addition brings our tennis membership to six teams and that will make for a more competitive event." Seattle will join tennis-playing members Chicago State, NJIT, North Dakota, South Dakota and defending champion Texas-Pan American at the 2011 Great West women's tennis championship, which will be held April 29-30 in Chicago. "Coach (Mark) Frisby is very enthused about joining the Great West Conference," said Seattle Athletic Director Bill Hogan. "We now have seven our of 19 sports in the Great West Conference and look forward to competing with the Division I schools." Complete Release in PDF Format
