Chicago State Finishes Third in Great West Conference Tennis Championship

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Chicago State, the tournament's top seed, swept both doubles and won the first two singles matches to clinch a 4-0 victory over NJIT in this morning's third place game of the 2010 Great West Conference Tennis Championship at Center Court Fitness Club in Grand Forks, N.D. In No. 1 doubles, CSU's Dian Mayasari and Golda Rubina teamed for an 8-6 win over NJIT's Nina Mayevska and Isha Toor. In No. 2 doubles, Juan Rosalia Tejoprayitno and Juan Rosalina Tejoprayitno combined for an 8-4 win over Ana Lidon and Anine Lovdal. With both teams fielding lineups of only five players, only two doubles matches were played and each counted as one point. Chicago State entered singles competition leading 2-0 and secured the match victory with wins in No. 1 and No. 4 singles. In No. 1 singles, Mayasari took the first set from Mayevska 6-2 and led the second set 1-0 when Mayevska suffered an injury and was unable to continue. Rubina won the decisive point when she defeated Lovdal, 6-3 and 6-4, in straight sets. The No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles matches were then abandoned. North Dakota and Texas-Pan American will meet for the tournament championship at noon.
