Seattle U's Corinne Wurden Named Tennis Player of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Seattle U's Corinne Wurden has been named Great West Conference Tennis Player of the Week after helping the Redhawks to victory last week. The award was announced Friday by the conference office.
Against Portland State, Wurden won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, scoring the clinching point for Seattle U. The Redhawks raced out to a 3-0 dual lead but lost the next two points in three-set matches, putting the dual score at 3-2. In her match, Wurden lost the first three games of the first set but won the next four before winning the set, 6-4. The sophomore from Poulsbo, Wash., finished out the match with a 6-1 victory in the second set, giving her 12 of the last 14 games in the match. Wurden also teammed with partner Katrina Schwab for an 8-2 win in the doubles competition, helping the Redhawks to the 5-2 victory.
The 2012 Great West Conference Women's Tennis Championship will be held April 21-22, at Harlingen, Texas, and will be hosted by Texas-Pan American.
