Utah Valley and Houston Baptist Claim Softball Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Utah Valley's Meghan Woodworth Yocom and Houston Baptist's Jammie Weidert have been named Great West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, after outstanding performances last week. Yocom, a senior from Milford, N.H., was named Player of the Week after hitting .526, slugging 1.158 and recording an on-base percentage of .550 at last weekend's GWC softball event where the Wolverines posted a 4-2 record. The outfielder hit a double, a triple, three home runs and drove home five RBI while also being a perfect 2-2 in stolen bases and playing an errorless center field for the Wolverines. Yocom is batting a team-high .404 on the season. The pitching honor went to Weidert after the senior posted a perfect 3-0 record against GWC foes last week as the Huskies went 5-1 and claimed the top-seed at the upcoming GWC Softball Tournament. The righthander from Frisco, Texas, had a 1.11 earned run average in the three wins and pitched a career-high 12 strikeouts against Utah Valley. Weidert also appeared in five games at the plate, recording one RBI and one run scored and has won four straight games in the circle earning a cumulative ERA of 1.66. Others nominated for the weekly honors were Houston Baptist's Rebecca Rademacher (OF), North Dakota's Kenna Olsen (DP) and Michelle Frank (P), South Dakota's Alexa Rudeen (1B) and Utah Valley's Josi Summers (P). |
