North Dakota and Houston Baptist Softball Players Honored

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - North Dakota's Casie Hanson and Houston Baptist's Beth Evans have been named Great West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. The honors were announced Tuesday by the league office.
Hanson, a senior from St. Peter, Minn., was named GWC Player of the Week after hitting a combined .500 in nine games last week. The center fielder also posted a .962 slugging percentage and a .581 on-base percentage during a trip to California last week that included games with Cal State Northridge, Loyola Marymount, San Diego, Bucknell and GWC foe Utah Valley. She recorded 13 hits, three triples, two homeruns, six RBI, three stolen bases and scored 10 runs in the Sioux's nine games.
Evans, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, was chosen GWC Pitcher of the Week after throwing a no-hitter in a 3-0 win last week over Buffalo in the Coastal Carolina Tournament at Myrtle Beach, S.C. In two games, Evans posted an 0.69 earned run average, while striking out 10 batters on her way to a 1-1 record which included the 3-0 win over Buffalo and a 2-1 loss to Oakland. For the season, she has a team-leading 1.59 ERA and is second on the team in strikeouts with 28.
Others nominated were Houston Baptist's Laine Skelton (OF), North Dakota's Emma Gronseth (P), South Dakota's Alaina Novotny (3B) and Utah Valley's Amber Sackett (OF).
