NEWARK, N.J. - Houston Baptist won a 2-1 decision over South Carolina State in the third match of the Great West Soccer Tournament at Newark, N.J.

South Carolina State, the third seed in the East Division, scored first on a goal by Dani Benton at the four minute mark after the ball was fumbled by All-Conference goalkeeper Michelle Rich.

The Huskies, trailing 1-0 at the half, rebounded in the second frame and scored at the 50:38 mark on a goal by West Division Offensive Player of the Year Isla Cameron from Brandi Hart. Cameron's goal was her eighth of the year.

The score remained tied until the 87th minute when HBU's Kristina Burhans took a punt from Rich and scored her first goal of the season from 15 yards out, giving the Huskies the 2-1 victory.

HBU, the West Division's second seed, and SCSU each had eight shots and six on goal, with the Huskies having a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

Rich recorded five saves. Alechia Brothers, who also was an All-Conference keeper, registered four saves in the losing effort.

South Carolina State ends its season, 10-7-3, giving the Lady Bulldogs their first winning season in school history and boasting one of the biggest turnarounds in NCAA Division I after going 2-10-2 in 2008.

HBU improves to 8-8-3 on the year and will face the winner of NJIT-North Dakota, Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
