Houston Baptist and Utah Valley Claim Soccer Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Houston Baptist's Isla Cameron and Utah Valley's Tasha Bell were named Great West Conference Soccer Players of the Week. The awards were announced Tuesday by the conference office.

Cameron, a junior from Glasgow, Scotland, tallied three goals and six points in two games last week. She scored one goal in a 3-2 loss at Utah Valley and then made two goals on Saturday as the Huskies defeated South Dakota, 2-0, to clinch second place in the West Division. She leads her team with seven goals and 16 points on the season.

On the defensive side, Bell won the honor after posting five saves on the week. The senior goal keeper from Farmington, Utah, registered two saves to preserve the Wolverines' win over HBU and first place in the West Division. She then had three saves in a 5-0 win over South Dakota to end the regular season for Utah Valley. Others nominated for the offensive award included Retha Koefoed (Howard) and Adrienne Schneider (Utah Valley), while Chanel Bell (Howard) was nominated for defensive honors.

The Great West Conference Soccer Tournament will get underway on Friday, November 6, at Newark, N.J.
