Oct. 10, 2011
NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Utah Valley's Natalie Young and Lauren Sack have been named Great West Conference Soccer Players of the Week after leading the Wolverines to a 1-0 record last week in GWC action. The honors were announced Monday by the conference office.
Young, a sophomore from Springville, Utah, posted two goals - including the game-winner tally - in a 3-2 win in GWC action at North Dakota. The forward opened the scoring in the game with a goal less than four minutes in then netted the game-winning goal in the 84th minute. She has scored four goals in the past three games and has two multi-goal games this season.
Sack, a sophomore from Reno, Nev., recorded four saves in a 3-2 victory at North Dakota. Despite the windy conditions, Sack held her ground, staving off the Fighting Sioux rally as UVU came out on top as the Wolverines have won three straight and five out of the last seven.
Others nominated were Delaware State's forward Candace Wyre and defender Randall Marshall and NJIT's forward Kylie Jones.
