Houston Baptist Leads After Day One of Great West Championship

EDINBURG, Texas - Houston Baptist leads the 2010 Great West Championship over host Texas-Pan American by 11 strokes after 36 holes, played at the Los Lagos Golf Club in Edinburg, Texas. HBU was paced by four individuals who are in the top six with Gaia Olcese totaling 178 (75-83) to lead the Huskies with a second place ranking. Natasha Lee fired a 162 (82-80), Paige Gibson shot 164 (83-81) and Balbina Guajardo recorded a 167 (83-84) as the trio came in third, fifth and sixth, respectively, in helping HBU (323-328) to a 11 stroke advantage over UTPA with a team total of 662. The Broncs (329-333=662) are led by Haley Hocott who fired rounds of 76 and 81 for a two-round total of 157 to lead all individuals. UTPA's Sarah Kothny standing in fourth place with rounds of 79 and 84 for a two round total of 163. Melinda Uriegas shot 170 (90-80) and Majo Camey posted a 172 (84-88) as the two sit in ninth and 10th place, respectively, for the Broncs. Erika Baldwin paces Utah Valley with a seventh place showing in the first day as the Wolverines shot a 684 (337-347) to sit alone in third place. North Dakota's 704 (350-354) put the Sioux in fourth as South Dakota shot 769 (383-386) and Chicago State totaled 786 (391-395) in rounding out the first day. Play will conclude tomorrow with the third round as a shotgun start is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. at the Los Lagos Golf Club.
