NAPERVILLE, Ill. - NJIT's Rayven Johnson has been named Great West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week after an outstanding performance as the Highlanders opened conference play with a 2-0 mark. The award was announced Tuesday by the league office.

Johnson, a junior from Rahway, N.J., captures weekly honors after averaging a double-double in each of the two conference games the Highlanders won, giving NJIT a great start to the conference season. In the 69-52 win over Houston Baptist, the guard led the way with 14 points and 10 rebounds against the Huskies. She then followed up that performance with 13 points and 10 rebounds - including the game-winning layup with 7.4 seconds left - in a 41-40 victory over Texas-Pan American.

Others nominated were Janay Dockery (Chicago State), Devyn Weymouth (Houston Baptist), Charnise Mothershed (North Dakota), Bianca Torre (Texas-Pan American), Sammie Jensen (Utah Valley).
