UTPA captured the 2010 America Sky Championship with a three-round total of 917

EDINBURG, Texas - Texas-Pan American held on to first place with a third round total of 307 and a 54-hole total of 917 en route to capturing the 2010 American Sky Men's Golf Conference Championship by three strokes over Northern Colorado on Tuesday, played at the Los Lagos Golf Club in Edinburg, Texas.

The Broncs, who were ahead of Houston Baptist by one shot after 36 holes on day one, shot the third lowest round of the day, but managed to hold off Northern Colorado's round of 302 as the Bears finished in second with a three-round total of 920.

Defending America Sky Champion Sacramento State shot the lowest round of the day with a 301 to tie for the third spot with Houston Baptist, as both teams finished the championship with a 932. Binghamton held off North Dakota for fifth place as the Bearcats finished with a 942, just three strokes ahead of UND.  Weber State finished seventh with a 951 followed by Utah Valley's 965, South Dakota's 978, Hartford's 984 and Chicago State's 1,098.

UTPA's Reyna led the Broncs and captured individual honors by defeating HBU's Sumin Yu by four shots with a three round total of 216 (67-74-75). Yu finished the championship and earned first team all-conference honors with a 220 (73-74-73).

"Winning the championship today feels really good," said UTPA men's head coach Santiago De Larrea. "The team has been improving the whole semester and has really been looking forward to playing here at home. We are also excited because Brandon also won his first tournament. Overall, it has been a great week for the Broncs."

Joining Reyna and Yu on the first team were UTPA's Armen Kirakossian (73-77-73=223), Northern Colorado's Troy Sidabras (71-80-74=225) and Binghamton's Jake Katz (76-74-79=229). Weber State's Kurt Owen (73-78-79=230), Hartford's Nick Macdonald (80-76-75=231), Northern Colorado's Steve Bidne (82-74-76=232), Sacramento State's Nick Neal (72-84-76=232) and Cameron Rappleye (80-79-73) all garnered second team accolades.

"I think the course down here at Los Lagos Golf Club was the big winner this week," said America Sky Commissioner Ed Grom.  "The course was difficult, but I think the teams all played well. The round by our medalist, Brandon Reyna, of 67 stands out as the highlight of the tournament. He is four shots better than the next person in line. Congratulations to Brandon and congratulations to all the teams."
