Southern Utah's Trevor Ward has been selected the punter on the 2009 Sports Network Football Championship Subdivision All-America first team released on Wednesday.
Ward, a senior from Ogden, Utah, posted 35 punts for 1,680 yards in 2009, while his average of 48.0 yards per punt led the nation. Ward was a first-team All-Great West Conference selection and was chosen the GWC Special Teams Player of the Year.
Also receiving TSN All-America accolades was SUU's Tysson Poots. The junior wide receiver from Henderson, Nev., was honored by TSN with second-team accolades. Poots finished the season ranked second in the nation in receptions per game (9.4) and receiving yards per game (120.1) as well as 26th in the FCS in scoring with 10.0 points per game. Poots, a first-team All-GWC selection, led the league in receptions, receiving yards per game and scoring with 85 catches for 1,081 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Completing the Great West Conference's representation on TSN's All-America squad was South Dakota's Ko Quaye. Quaye, a senior defensive tackle from Brooklyn Park, Minn., was named to TSN's third team after completing the season with 31 tackles. He made 15 solo stops and earned seven tackles for loss for 22 yards. He also claimed half a sack, three quarterback hurries and one forced fumble. He was named to the All-Great West Conference first-team and was named USD's Defensive Player of the Year.
