Dec. 15, 2011
South Dakota's Tom Compton, Cal Poly's Asa Jackson and Southern Utah's Tyler Osborne have been named to the 2011 FCS All-America Team by the Associated Press. Compton received first-team honors, while Jackson and Osborne landed on the third team. All three GWC athletes were honored earlier this week as members of the All-Time Great West Conference Football Team.
Compton, a senior from Rosemount, Minn., was a three-time All-Great West Conference honoree at offensive lineman, and this is the second All-America honor in as many years for Compton as he was a PhilSteele.com fourth team All-America selection in 2010. In addition, Compton earned GWC Offensive Lineman of the Year honors according to the media in 2011.
Jackson also received his second All-America honor after being named to The Sports Network All-America third team in 2010. The senior defensive back from Sacramento, Calif., is also the first player to receive first-team All-GWC honors all four years. Jackson was a two-time GWC Defensive Player of the Year.
Rounding out the AP All-America honorees from the GWC is Osborne, the 2011 Great West Defensive Player of the Year. The senior defensive lineman ranked near the top of the Great West in almost every defensive category and was a two-time All-GWC honoree.
