UND'S MUSSMAN RECEIVES EXTENSION

Dec. 12, 2008

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota director of athletics Brian Faison announced today that head football coach Chris Mussman has received a two-year contract extension. With the extension, Mussman's contract will run through the 2012 season. "Chris has been an integral part of the Sioux football tradition for the past 10 seasons and I believe he is the right man for the right time to continue to lead Sioux football into the Division I era," said Faison. "The time-honored success of Sioux football, both on the field and in the classroom, is well documented and we want to continue that level of success," continued Faison. "Chris did an outstanding job in his first season as head coach and we want to ensure that we have steady and proven leadership throughout the FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) process. We also want to be ready to compete at the top level of FCS when that transition process is complete." Mussman, 40, led the Sioux to a 6-4 record in their first year of a five-year FCS transition. It was the school's sixth consecutive winning season and 18th in its last 19 seasons. Nine Fighting Sioux were named to the 2008 All-Great West Conference team and four players were named to the 2008 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America team, the latter leading the nation.
