Sept. 25, 2011

North Dakota's Jake Miller and Southern Utah's Blake Fenn and Colton Cook have been named Great West Conference Football Players of the Week after outstanding performances that led their respective teams to victories on Saturday.

Miller was named Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week after rushing for 181 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns in the Fighting Sioux's 53-19 win over Black Hills State. Fenn received the defensive honor after intercepting a UNLV pass on the first play from scrimmage in the second half and returning it 22 yards for a touchdown to break a 10-10 tie and give the Thunderbirds the lead for good. In addition to his interception, Fenn posted nine tackles (six solo) in the win. Also contributing to Southern Utah's 41-16 victory over the FBS Rebels, Cook hit 2-of-2 field goals, including a career-high 40-yarder, and averaged 60.1 yards per kickoff on his way to special teams accolades.

Players of the Week from Week No. 4

RB Jake Miler - North Dakota (5-8, 168, So., Bismark, N.D.)

For the second straight week, Miller earned Great West Conference Offensive POW as he established another career high in rushing yards, piling up 181 yards on 22 carries with a pair of rushing touchdowns (19, 5) in North Dakota’s win over Black Hills State. Miller actually had his career high by halftime after rushing 14 times for 156 yards and his two scores in the opening 30 minutes. Miller scored on a 19-yard run and five-yard run to give him six rushing touchdowns on the season. It was his second straight multiple-touchdown effort after racking up three touchdowns last week at Fresno State.

Also Nominated - RB Colton Silveria (UC Davis); RB Jake Romanelli (Cal Poly); RB Austin Minefee (Southern Utah)

LB Blake Fenn - Southern Utah (6-1, 224, Sr., Roosevelt, Utah) On a day when the Thunderbirds returned a school-record three interceptions for touchdowns, Blake Fenn’s was perhaps the biggest in Southern Utah’s 41-16 victory over FBS UNLV. His interception came on the first play from scrimmage in the second half and the 22-yard return gave SUU a 16-10 lead it would never give up. UNLV had scored going into halftime to tie the game at 10-10 and Fenn’s interception took away any momentum the Rebels would have had coming out of the half. He also wound up second on the team with nine tackles, with a team-leading six solo stops.
