SUU's Poots Leads GWC Football Players On Preseason All-America Team
July 27, 2010
Three Great West Conference football players have been named to the 2010 Sports Network Preseason All-America Team. Southern Utah's Tysson Poots leads the GWC honorees as a first-team selection, while his teammate Fesi Sitake and UC-Davis' Mark Tos were named to the third team. Poots, who was selected to the team as a wide receiver, had earlier been named to TSN's Walter Payton Watch List recognizing him as one of the nation's top offensive players. He is the leading returning FCS receiver in the country in yards per game, receptions per game and scoring after he finished second in those three categories last year. The senior, who is a two-time All-GWC and All-America honoree, enters the 2010 season as SUU's career leader in receptions and receiving yards and averaged 9.4 receptions, 120.1 yards and 10.0 points per game last season. Sitake, a senior, earned third-team honors as a punt returner and led the Great West in that category last season with 14.79 yards per return, good for seventh in the FCS. He earned second team All-GWC accolades in 2009 and his yards per return average ranks second among FCS returners this season and is sixth best in SUU history. UC Davis' Tos rounds out the GWC players represented on the preseason team. The senior offensive tackle is a two-time all-conference selection and received first-team honors in 2009. |
