Four Great West Players Earn Preseason I-AA All-America Honors from The Sports Network
The Great West Football Conference is represented by four players in The Sports Network's Preseason I-AA All-America football teams. The GWFC had three players on the first team and one on the second team. UC Davis tight end Daniel Fells, one of four team captains on this season's Aggie squad, is a 6-foot-3, 240-pound senior from Fullerton. He has 49 career receptions for 799 yards and three touchdowns, enjoying his best games in 2004 when he had five catches for 90 yards against North Dakota State and five grabs for 76 yards and a touchdown versus Stephen F. Austin. Fells averaged 14.9 yards per catch during UC Davis' 6-4 season last year. "He's a terrific player who has gotten better every year," said Aggie head coach Bob Biggs. "He's worked very hard in the weight room and has become a much improved blocker. He's very deserving of any accolades he receives." Fells is the only player from the Great West Football Conference to earn recognition on The Sports Network's preseason offensive teams. Defensive end Chris Gocong of Cal Poly and safety Reed Doughty of Northern Colorado were named to the defense's first team while Cal Poly safety Kenny Chicoine was selected to the second team.
