Jan. 7, 2006 CHICAGO, Ill. - Final 2005 Gridiron Power Index (GPI) The final 2005 Gridiron Power Index (GPI), the BCS-style ranking for I-AA and top indicator of at-large playoff selection has national champion Appalachian State No. 1. The Gateway Football Conference is the top ranked Conference. I-AA's largest conference, the Atlantic 10 placed five of their teams in the top 25; the Big Sky and Gateway Football Conferences placed four each; the Great West Football and Southern Conferences placed three apiece; the Southland Conference placed two and the Ivy League, Mid-Eastern Athletic, Ohio Valley and Southwestern Athletic Conferences placed one team each.
