Nov. 30, 2009
NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The University of South Dakota's Jake Thomas was honored as Great West Conference Player of the Week after setting a school record with nine three-pointers on Sunday. The award was announced Monday by the conference office.
Thomas, a freshman guard from Racine, Wis., was 9-12 (.750) from beyond the arc in the Coyotes' 104-71 victory over Midland Lutheran yesterday, finishing the game with 31 points. He connected on his first four attempts from long range to finish the first half with six treys and added three more in the second half to eclipse the old school single-game record by one. Earlier in the week, Thomas led USD to another win over Dana College (100-65) as he hit five three-pointers and tallied 17 points and seven rebounds.
Others nominated for the honor were Carl Montgomery (Chicago State), Travis Mertens (North Dakota), Luis Valera (UTPA) and Justin Baker (Utah Valley).
