HBU's Flaherty Named Men's Basketball Player of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Houston Baptist University's Mario Flaherty was honored as Great West Conference Player of the Week after posting a double-double at No. 15 Michigan last Friday night. The award was announced Monday by the conference office.
Flaherty, a 6-9 senior forward/post from Millbrae, Calif., scored 17 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the road contest. The Preseason Great West Honorable Mention selection also recorded three assists, one blocked shot and one steal and is averaging a double-double of 13.8 points and 10.0 rebounds through four games this season. The Huskies lost to the Big Ten opponent, 77-55, despite outrebounding the Wolverines, 52-39.
Others nominated for the honor were Carl Montgomery (Chicago State), Jheryl Wilson (NJIT), Dustin Monsebroten (North Dakota), Tyler Cain (South Dakota) and Ben Smith (UTPA).
