Utah Valley's Corey Claitt Named Player of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Utah Valley's Corey Claitt has been chosen the Great West Conference Player of the Week after leading the Wolverines to a win in the first-ever Great West Conference men's basketball game. The honor was announced Monday by the conference office.
Claitt, a junior from West Palm Beach, Fla., scored a three-point play with 14.4 seconds remaining to break a 43-43 tie and propel Utah Valley to victory over Chicago State. At one time, Claitt scored 12 straight points, keeping the Wolverines in the game. In addition to his scoring effort, Claitt pulled down six rebounds.
Earlier in the week, the 6-2 guard again posted 20 points and six rebounds at Texas-Arlington. He also recorded five assists and three steals in the 90-85 overtime road loss.
Others nominated for Player of the Week were Carl Montgomery (Chicago State), Derek Benter (North Dakota), Tyler Cain (South Dakota) and Luis Valera (Texas-Pan American).
