Houston Baptist Eliminates NJIT, 17-3

No. 3 seed Houston Baptist scored four runs in the first and 11 in the fifth inning en route to a 17-3 victory over No. 5 seed NJIT, eliminating the Highlanders and keeping the Huskies alive for another day in the 2011 Great West Conference Tournament played at North Dakota's Kraft Memorial Field.
Jake Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with five RBI, home run and a double to lead the Huskies offense. Leadoff batter Luke Clements went 3-for-5 with three RBI and just a single short of the cycle with a home run, triple and double. Collin Hetzler, Kolby Arnst and Robbie Buller each scored three runs as the first five batters in HBU lineup scored 14 of the 17 runs in the game.
HBU's starter Jamie Storey scattered eight hits while allowing three runs - one earned - in six solid innings of work, improving to 2-8 this season.
The Huskies got to starter DJ Roche early with four runs before chasing the Highlanders righthanded hurler out of the game in the fourth. Roche (2-5) allowed seven runs - all earned - on seven hits in a losing effort.
With the win, HBU (20-39) stays to play another day as the Huskies will play tomorrow at 11 a.m. against the winner of the match up between No. 2 seed Northern Colorado and No. 4 seed NYIT.
