All-Great West Baseball Team Announced on Eve of GWC Tournament

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The 2012 All-Great West Conference Baseball Team was selected by the league coaches and announced today on the eve of the GWC Baseball Tournament. Utah Valley's Goose Kallunki was named GWC Player of the Year, while the Wolverines' Adam Gunn was selected Pitcher of the Year. Kallunki, a senior from Orem, Utah, leads the nation in RBI with 80 on the season. He is also tops in the GWC with 17 home runs and a .429 batting average. In conference-only games, the first baseman leads the league with a .515 batting average, 12 home runs and a .990 slugging percentage. Pitcher of the Year honors went to Gunn who posted an 8-3 record during the regular season, including 5-0 in GWC starts. The junior from Santa Clara, Utah, posted a league-leading 1.01 ERA in GWC-only games and a 3.70 ERA with 69 strikeouts for the season. North Dakota's Jeff Campbell was selected Newcomer of the Year. The freshman from Clearwater, Fla., played both first base and pitcher in his first year with the Fighting Sioux and is tied for the lead among all Division I freshmen with 11 home runs. Utah Valley's Eric Madsen earned his third straight Coach of the Year accolades after leading the Wolverines to their third straight GWC championship with a perfect 28-0 record. Utah Valley is 43-12 on the season, which included a nation-leading 32-game win streak. The Great West Conference Baseball Tournament will be played May 22-26, at Orem, Utah.
