Utah Valley Picked as GWC Preseason Baseball Favorite

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Great West Conference baseball coaches have picked Utah Valley as the favorite to win the league's inaugural baseball title. The preseason poll was announced Friday by the conference office.

Utah Valley received two first-place votes and a total of 51 points to edge out NYIT which received three first-place votes and finished second in the voting with 50 points. Houston Baptist also received three first-place votes and finished third with a total of 48 points.

Texas-Pan American came in fourth in the balloting with 37 points, followed closely by North Dakota with 36 points and Northern Colorado with 34 points. NJIT and Chicago State rounded out the poll with 22 and 10 points, respectively.

The quest for the 2010 title will begin on April 9 with a full slate of weekend conference games. The regular-season championship will be decided by a single-round robin of four-game series. The season will culminate at the Great West Conference Postseason Baseball Tournament on May 25-28, 2010 at Edinburg, Texas, and will be hosted by Texas-Pan American.
