Chicago State and Utah Valley Claim Weekly Baseball Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Chicago State's Jonathan Carpen has been named Great West Conference Player of the Week while Utah Valley's Blake Krahenbuhl has been honored as the Pitcher of the Week for their individual performances last week. The honors were announced Wednesday by the conference office.
Carpen, a junior from Hammond, Ind., collects player of the week honors after batting .700 at the plate with 11 RBI, scored five runs, walked four times and had two three-hit games in a road series at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He went 3-of-4 in the opener with a career-best six RBI and scored three times. Carpen closed the series with another 3-of-4 offensive output with five RBI and scored twice.
Krahenbuhl threw eight complete innings of shutout baseball in a 5-0 nonconference win over Summit League member Southern Utah. The sophomore from South Jordan, Utah was part of the first one-hitter in UVU's NCAA D-I history. The righthanded hurler is 2-0 and has thrown 13 scoreless innings to begin the 2011 season. He allowed only a one-out single in the fifth then retired the final 11 batters he faced. Both of his 2011 starts have been shutouts by the Wolverines.
Others nominated were Albert Carpen (LHP) of Chicago State, Robbie Buller (3B) and Dalton Schafer (RHP) of Houston Baptist, T.J. Berge (2B) of Northern Colorado, Andy Sadler (OF) of North Dakota and Chris Benson (OF) of Utah Valley.
