The South Dakota men's and women's track teams captured the 2011 GWC Indoor Track and Field Championships, giving the Coyotes a three-peat and making them the only GWC indoor champions in the league's history.

The Coyotes, who won both men's and women's titles in 2009 and 2010, completed their sweep on Monday at the championships held at The Armory Track and Field Center in New York City, N.Y.  The women came back from a second-place first day finish to take the championship with a score of 222 points, while the men held their day one lead to win with 170.5 points.

The Coyote women’s team won eight events overall, including the distance medley relay captured on Sunday, while the Coyote men won three events. Both teams displayed the depth that has helped them win titles the previous two years.

Bethany Buell successfully defended her conference pole vault title with a meet record-breaking effort of 4.12 (13-6 1/4), just missing the school record she had set earlier this season.  Buell was honored for her efforts with the Most Outstanding Performance Award.  The Coyotes paced 1-2-3-4 in the pole vault, scoring 29 points in that event.

Tansha Clarke won the pentathlon with a record-breaking 3,216 points on her way to earning Freshman of the Year honors.  Defending champion Crustal Schiernbeck finished second with 3,195 points.
