Chicago State, USD Claim Track and Field Honors
Feb. 24, 2010
NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Chicago State's Jonathon Majors and South Dakota's Ramsey Fitzsimmons were chosen Great West Conference Track & Field Athletes of the Week for the week ending Feb. 21st, the conference announced Wednesday. Majors recorded three top-10 finishes, including a pair of first-place showings, and posted a pair of personal-best records in leading the Cougars at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panther Tune-Up on Feb. 19. The sophomore captured the 200-meter dash with a personal record time of 6.99 and recorded a personal-best jump of 22-10.75 to win the long jump competition. Majors also competed in the triple jump, placing seventh with a mark of 45-4.25. Fitzsimmons earns the weekly honor by placing first in the 3,000-meters to pace a pack of South Dakota women at the Nebraska Tune-Up last Friday in Lincoln, Neb. She placed first with a 9:50 mark to improve her season-best by 22 seconds and finish less than five seconds away from her own school record of 9:45. The senior's performance moved her to the top of the Great West Conference performance list, as she is the only woman to run under 10 minutes in the event this indoor season. Others nominated for athlete of the week were South Dakota's Casey Shade and Chicago State's Tosin Idowu. South Dakota will host the 2010 Great West Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday-Saturday, Feb. 26-27, at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D. Complete Release in PDF Format
