Utah Valley's Allah Laryea-Akrong and Chicago State's Jaya Emerson have been named Great West Conference Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week after outstanding performances last week. The awards were announced Friday by the conference office.

Laryea-Akrong received the men's honor after winning both the 200m and 60m events at the Bronco Invitational at Nampa, Idaho. The junior from Ghana won the 200m in a time of 21.44, setting a new school record. His first-place time in the 60m was 6.84 in the meet that featured teams from Sacramento State, Idaho, Utah State, UC Riverside, UC Irvine, and host Boise State, among others.

Emerson, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., won the women's award after finishing second in the shot put at the EIU John Craft Invite last weekend. The North Carolina native recorded a throw of 44-0.50 in the meet and later posted an eighth-place showing in the weight throw by posting a toss of 45-7.25.

Other standout performers nominated for the weekly honors were Chicago State's Kelvin White, Seattle U's Stephen Squatrito, Texas-Pan American's Scott Bann and Jasmine Davison, and Utah Valley's Megan Burr.
