Cal Poly Announces Football Schedule for 2004 Season
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA -- Ten games against Division I-AA opponents and one against Division II Humboldt State highlight the 2004 Cal Poly football schedule released by director of athletics John McCutcheon and head football coach Rich Ellerson. Cal Poly, which had opened its last two seasons against a Division I-AA school and had played a pair of Division I-A schools each of the last two years, won't play one next fall. Instead, the Mustangs will open with Humboldt State on Sept. 4 in Mustang Stadium, followed by 10 games against fellow Division I-AA schools. Cal Poly will play five of its 11 games in Mustang Stadium. In addition to the contest with the Lumberjacks, the Mustangs will host Northern Colorado on Sept. 25, Saint Maryıs on Oct. 16, UC Davis on Oct. 30 and South Dakota State on Nov. 13. The Saint Mary's contest will be Homecoming and kick off at 4 p.m.; all other Mustang home games will start at 6 p.m. The UC Davis contest will be the Hall of Fame Game. Cal Poly's six opponents on the road will be Idaho State (Pocatello, ID) on Sept. 11, Montana State (Bozeman, MT) on Sept. 18, Southern Utah (Cedar City, UT) on Oct. 9, North Dakota State (Fargo, ND) on Oct. 23, Eastern Washington (Cheney, WA) on Nov. 6 and Sacramento State (Sacramento, CA) on Nov. 20. The Mustangs will play four Big Sky schools next fall -- Idaho State, Montana State, Eastern Washington and Sacramento State -- all on the road. Last year Cal Poly played two Division I-A schools -- Texas-El Paso and Akron -- and five Big Sky schools. Two years ago the Mustangs played two more Division I-A schools -- Toledo and Kent State -- and four Big Sky members. 2004 Cal Poly Football Schedule Date Opponent Time Sept. 4 HUMBOLDT STATE 6 p.m. Sept. 11 at Idaho State TBA Sept. 18 at Montana State TBA Sept. 25 NORTHERN COLORADO* 6 p.m. Oct. 2 OPEN Oct. 9 at Southern Utah* TBA Oct. 16 SAINT MARY'S* (Homecoming Game) 4 p.m. Oct. 23 at North Dakota State* TBA Oct. 30 UC DAVIS* (Hall of Fame Game) 6 p.m. Nov. 6 at Eastern Washington TBA Nov. 13 SOUTH DAKOTA STATE* 6 p.m. Nov. 20 at Sacramento State TBA* - indicates Great West Football Game All times Pacific |
