NAPERVILLE, Ill. - A trip to Orem, Utah in March of 2010 will lead to the first Great West tournament champion in men's and women's basketball, as the Joint Council of the conference met last week in Washington, D.C., and selected sites for 15 championships during the 2009-10 season, the first year of full of Great West competition in all sports.

Utah Valley was selected to host the first combined men's and women's basketball tournament, to be held March 10-13, 2010 at the 8,500-seat McKay Center. All seven men's and women's teams will compete in the post-season event, culminating with the first basketball tournament champion in Great West basketball history. The Great West will begin its first season of double round robin basketball scheduling with men's and women's doubleheaders on Saturday, January 9, 2010 with Chicago State playing at Utah Valley, with the rest of the league starting play on Thursday, January 14 and continuing each week until the end of the regular season on Saturday, March 6.

The 2009-10 post-season championship schedule begins with the men's and women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 31 at NJIT. Other 2009 fall championships sites will be NJIT for women's soccer (Nov. 6-9) and Houston Baptist for volleyball (Nov. 20-21). The University of South Dakota was chosen to play host to both the Great West Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships, while Tex-Pan American was picked as the site for both men's and women's Golf (April 19-20, 2010) and baseball (May 26-29, 2010). North Dakota will be the site for women's tennis (date TBD) and HBU the host for softball (May 15-17, 2010).
